Beaumaris Castle (CADW)

Begun in 1295, this unfinished castle is the last and largest of King Edward I’s Welsh fortifications. Designed by the king’s mason-architect, Master James of St George, it is a perfect example of a concentrically planned castle. Formidable defences survive, surrounded by a partly restored moat. World Heritage Site.

Beaumaris Gaol and Courthouse, Beaumaris

This Victorian Gaol was built by Hansom (famous for the Hansom Cab) in 1829. The gaol features the only working tread wheel in Britain and a gibbet is still fixed to the wall.

Plas Newydd (NT), Llanfairpwll

Plas Newydd garden has both formal and informal styles. With magnificent views of the Snowdonia Peaks. The open-plan garden containing shrubs planted in the lawns to the more formal Italian-style garden to the front of the house. Where the conservatory once stood on the top terrace, there is now an arbour with water falling to a pool, with its Italianate fountain, on the bottom terrace. Major restoration of the Italiante garden is on-going including replanting of the mixed borders and the construction of a deep grotto.

RSPB:South Stack Reserve (Elins Tower), Holyhead

Enjoy a close-up view onto a wonderful cliff-side nesting colony, with binoculars and telescopes provided. You’ll be able to watch guillemots, razorbills and puffins all raising their young, while live television pictures give you an even closer view of the nests! Rare choughs can also be seen on the reserve.

Stone Science, Talwrn

A family owned, friendly museum of geology and archaeology with a difference. Inside are a series of dioramas depicting the evolving ages of the earth, including Dinosaurs.
